Basketball Game Preview: South Summit Wildcats vs. Grantsville Cowboys

The South Summit Wildcats will head out to square off against the Grantsville Cowboys at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. South Summit knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Grantsville likes a good challenge.

It was a proper cat-fight when South Summit faced off against Ogden on Wednesday. South Summit came out on top against Ogden by a score of 61-53.

It was another big night for Logan Woolstenhulme, who dropped a double-double on 30 points and 14 boards. That makes it eight consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of South Summit's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Osguthorpe, who posted 11 points.

South Summit was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Grantsville suffered their biggest defeat since December 2, 2023 on Wednesday. They were dealt a 74-44 loss at the hands of Morgan. While losing is never fun, the Cowboys can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 72nd, while the Trojans are ranked 15th).

South Summit has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.3 points per game. As for Grantsville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-10.

South Summit beat Grantsville 80-69 in their previous meeting on January 15th. The rematch might be a little tougher for South Summit since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
