Softball Game Preview: Pineville Mountain Lions vs. Clay County Tigers

The Pineville Mountain Lions are taking a road trip to face off against the Clay County Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Pineville will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.

On Saturday, Pineville narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Wayne County 4-3.

Rachel Howard spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on five hits and racked up 16 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Isabella Adams was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Clay County came up short against Jackson County on Saturday, falling 9-1. The loss continues a trend for the Tigers in their meetings with the Generals: they've now lost four in a row.

Anna Samples was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run.

Pineville's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-6-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Clay County, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-13.
