Recap: College Station Cougars vs. A&M Consolidated Tigers
The College Station Cougars entered their tilt with the A&M Consolidated Tigers with seven consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with eight. College Station came out on top against A&M Consolidated by a score of 49-42 on Friday. Given College Station's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 37th, while A&M Consolidated is ranked 140th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Aydan Martinez-Brown was his usual excellent self, rushing for 243 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.6 yards per carry. Martinez-Brown really tore up the turf during one magnificent 80-yard run. Jake Peveto was in the mix as well, providing College Station with two touchdowns.
The team's defense also helped out by holding A&M Consolidated to a paltry 242 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to College Station's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out four times before it was all said and done. The heavy lifting was done by Malik Cotton and D'Andre Harwell who racked up four sacks between them.
A&M Consolidated's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Payton Bjork, who picked up 38 receiving yards and two touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Hargett, who threw for 146 yards and three touchdowns.
College Station's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 8-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-8 Temple and 2-7 Glenn (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 37.8% over those games). As for A&M Consolidated, their loss dropped their record down to 6-3.
College Station will be playing at home against Hendrickson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hendrickson is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak. As for A&M Consolidated, they will head out on the road to face off against Glenn at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Glenn is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
