Softball Recap: Thomas A. Edison Falls to Mariana Bracetti Academy in First Game of Season

Thomas A. Edison unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of Mariana Bracetti Academy by a score of 18-16 on Wednesday. The Owls were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Mariana Bracetti Academy apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Omalis Rivera was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, five runs, and six RBI. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Nylah Borges, who scored three runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Thomas A. Edison wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 19-12 defeat against String Theory on the 20th. As for Mariana Bracetti Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Maritime Academy Charter at 3:15 p.m. on the 28th. Mariana Bracetti Academy's pitchers better be ready for this one: Maritime Academy Charter has averaged an impressive 8.8 runs per game this season.
