Football Recap: Hayfield Comes Up Short

Hayfield lost against West Potomac back in March of 2021 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Hawks lost 33-7 to the Wolverines. The Hawks were down 24-0 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

West Potomac's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ben Knapp, who threw for 182 yards and two TDs while completing 80% of his passes. What's more, Knapp racked up 160.4 passer rating, the most he's had since back in November of 2024.

Hayfield's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for West Potomac, the win was their first at home , bumping their record up to 2-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Hayfield will square off against St. Michael the Archangel at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Hawks will be up against the Warriors' rather soft defense (which has allowed 31.4 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for West Potomac, they will face off against Alexandria City at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Titans' defense has only allowed 13.4 points per game this season, so the Wolverines' offense will have their work cut out for them.
