Basketball Preview: West Warwick Wizards vs. North Smithfield Northmen
West Warwick is 0-3 against the Northmen since December of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The West Warwick Wizards will head out on the road to take on the North Smithfield Northmen at 6:30 p.m. One thing working in West Warwick's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last seven contests.
West Warwick pushed their score all the way to 60 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 70-60 to Coventry. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Thursday (58), West Warwick still had to take the loss.
In what's become a running theme this season, North Smithfield gave their fans yet another huge victory on Sunday. They breezed by Block Island on the road to the tune of 76-39. Given North Smithfield's advantage in MaxPreps' Rhode Island basketball rankings (they are ranked ninth, while the are ranked 52nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
West Warwick's loss dropped their record down to 10-7. As for North Smithfield, their victory bumped their record up to 15-3.
West Warwick lost to the Northmen on the road by a decisive 62-45 margin in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. Can West Warwick avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
