Baseball Game Preview: Smithville Seminoles vs. West Union Eagles

For the second straight game, Smithville will face off against West Union. The Seminoles will welcome the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.

Smithville fell victim to West Union and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Eagles, falling 10-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Seminoles in their meetings with the Eagles: they've now lost three in a row.

For West Union's part, Jon Grey Morrisson made a splash no matter where he played. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. Morrisson also allowed no hits, which is notable because West Union is undefeated when he allows at most one hit, but 6-9 otherwise. Morrisson was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Grant Martin was incredible, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of West Union's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 2-1 (and 7-8 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Mack Wallis, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.

West Union was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The win got West Union back to even at 9-9. As for Smithville, their loss dropped their record down to 2-16.
