Baseball Game Preview: Hazen Highlanders vs. Bothell Cougars

The Hazen Highlanders will take on the Bothell Cougars at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hazen is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season.

Last Friday, Hazen came up short against Mercer Island and fell 5-2. The matchup marked the Highlanders' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Hazen saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rydan Corwin, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-3. Corwin is becoming a predictor of Hazen's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 3-1 (and 0-3 when he doesn't). Michael Curry was another, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Bothell waltzed into their game on Monday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They put the hurt on the Patriots with a sharp 14-5 win. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by seven runs or more this season.

The team relied heavily on Wyatt Mickelberry, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and one triple. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin McClaren, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Bothell's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Hazen, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Hazen's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's matchup. Hazen has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.6 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Bothell, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Hazen continue to outrun the ball?
