Softball Recap: Trona Finds Home Field Redemption Against Lone Pine

There's no place like home for Trona, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past the Lone Pine Golden Eagles 8-7. The Tornadoes have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Golden Eagles on Tuesday, too.

Lily Mehan made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, four RBI, and two doubles. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game.

In other batting news, Autumn Dunn was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Chloe Corrion, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with five stolen bases and two runs.

Trona always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. They are 5-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Trona pushed their record up to 8-6 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Lone Pine, they are on a 14-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.

Coming up, Trona is taking a road trip to take on Lee Vining at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.14 runs per game on average), something the Tornadoes will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Lone Pine, they will host Mojave at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Mustangs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.33 runs per game on average), something the Golden Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of.
