Softball Recap: Trona Victorious

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Immanuel Christian, Trona was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 win over the Lone Pine Golden Eagles. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Lily Mehan made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, four RBI, and two doubles. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Autumn Dunn, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Chloe Corrion, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with five stolen bases and two runs.

Trona always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lone Pine only posted an OBP of .323.

Trona is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season. As for Lone Pine, their defeat was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-9.

Trona didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 13-2 victory against Lee Vining on the 2nd. As for Lone Pine, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 17-9 loss against Mojave on the 1st.
