Football Recap: South Takes a Loss + How To Watch

South lost against Independence back in August of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Spartans were dealt a 34-7 defeat at the hands of the Falcons. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Spartans have suffered against the Falcons since September 16, 2016.

When it comes to explaining why South lost, don't look at Beto De Haro. Despite the final result, he rushed for 67 yards, and also threw for 86 yards and one touchdown. De Haro didn't just play on offense: he also forced one fumble, made seven total tackles, and defended one pass.

Even if they lost, South's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Davieon Jenkins, Emiliano Gallegos, and Brandon Burrell, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Gunter Golla Iii went supernova For Independence., throwing for 265 yards and a pair of TDs on only 15 passes, while also rushing for 58 yards and one score. Those 265 passing yards gave Golla Iii a new career-high. Bricen Gutierrez also helped out as he racked up 102 receiving yards.

South's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Independence, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

South didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 21-17 win against Golden Valley on the 4th. As for Independence, they have also already played their next contest, a 38-13 victory against Centennial on the 5th.
