Preview: Palmetto Ridge Bears vs. Golden Gate Titans
After two games on the road, Palmetto Ridge is heading back home. They will take on the Golden Gate Titans at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Palmetto Ridge will be strutting in after a victory while Golden Gate will be coming in after a loss.
On Tuesday, Palmetto Ridge beat South Fort Myers 57-44.
Palmetto Ridge's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Haley Cousins led the charge by scoring 26 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Cousins has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordyn Villani, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and four blocks.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Golden Gate's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. Their tough 53-27 defeat to Lely might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Golden Gate can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 459th, while Lely is ranked 208th).
Despite the loss, Golden Gate saw an underclassman step up: Aisha Petithomme scored eight points.
Palmetto Ridge's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-8. As for Golden Gate, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-13.
Palmetto Ridge strolled past Golden Gate in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 by a score of 54-36. Will Palmetto Ridge repeat their success, or does Golden Gate have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
