Basketball Recap: Pinecrest Glades Academy Comes Up Short

Pinecrest Glades Academy extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to six on Wednesday, dropping them down to 0-4. They were outmatched by the Downtown Doral Dolphins and fell 64-32. The Dragons were not able to make up for their defeat to the Dolphins from their previous meeting back in January of 2024.

Several Dragons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kevin Hernandez, who posted 12 points and eight boards. Marcelo Senqui also deserves some recognition as he pulled down his first board of the season.

Downtown Doral's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 50.5 points per game.

Mateo Davila produced another solid performance going 9-for-15 en route to 21 points and four steals. The contest was his third in a row with at least 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jesus Chirinos, who scored eight points in addition to nine rebounds and four steals.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pinecrest Glades Academy won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Killian at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Downtown Doral, they will also get right back to it: they'll face off against Booker T. Washington at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Tornadoes have been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
