Softball Game Preview: Gallia Academy Blue Devils vs. Fairland Dragons

For the first time this season, Gallia Academy will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will be playing at home against the Fairland Dragons at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Gallia Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.

Last Monday, Gallia Academy got the win against Southeastern by a conclusive 12-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Blue Devils.

Chloe Bennett was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Bennett was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-5.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ava Angel, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Colbie Nida, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Fairland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 17-0 to Ironton. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Dragons have suffered against the Fighting Tigers since April 5, 2021.

Fairland's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Gallia Academy, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.
