Basketball Recap: Chase Wortham's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Van Alstyne over Sanger

Van Alstyne was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 12th straight loss. They fell 60-50 to the Sanger Indians. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 809th, while the Indians are ranked 139th).

Van Alstyne's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chase Wortham, who went 5-for-6 on his way to 11 points. The dominant performance gave Wortham a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Garrett Skaggs, who posted ten points.

Even though they lost, Van Alstyne was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. This was only their 19th loss (out of 26 games) when they've passed the ball that well.

Van Alstyne's loss dropped their record down to 7-26. As for Sanger, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 23-7.

As of now, neither Van Alstyne nor Sanger have any future games scheduled.
