Recap: Key West Conchs vs. Ransom Everglades Raiders

This season hasn't been kind to the Key West Conchs, who are still winless after their eighth game. They took a 42-26 bruising from Ransom Everglades on Friday. While losing is never fun, Key West can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 525th, while Ransom Everglades is ranked 248th).

Gabriela Pena was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds for Ransom Everglades. That makes it six consecutive games in which Pena has scored at least a third of Ransom Everglades' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Holly Clement, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and two steals.

Key West's loss was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-8. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 16.3 points per game. As for Ransom Everglades, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-8.

Key West won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Archbishop McCarthy at 1:30 p.m. on January 13th. Ransom Everglades won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Marathon at 2:00 p.m. on January 13th.
