The St. Pius X Sartans will challenge the West Mesa Mustangs at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
St. Pius X took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They blew past Rio Grande 16-1. The victory continues a trend for the Sartans in their matchups with the Ravens: they've now won five in a row.

Dominique Morett made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two).
In other batting news, St. Pius X let Jordan Chavez and Sophia Trujillo run wild. Chavez went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Trujillo went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Davianna Romero, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
St. Pius X always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .607. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rio Grande only posted an OBP of .438.
Meanwhile, West Mesa came into Thursday's contest having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Everything went their way against Manzano on Thursday as West Mesa made off with a 19-3 win. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by 11 runs or more this season.
West Mesa got a massive performance out of Ellie Padilla, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Christina ' Ocho' Perez was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.
St. Pius X pushed their record up to 4-8 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 15.3 runs. As for West Mesa, their win bumped their record up to 3-6.
West Mesa's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: St. Pius X has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.5 hits per game. It's a different story for West Mesa, though, as they've been averaging 13.2 hits. Given St. Pius X's sizable advantage in that area, West Mesa will need to find a way to close that gap.
St. Pius X was able to grind out a solid victory over West Mesa in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, winning 7-3. Does St. Pius X have another victory up their sleeve, or will West Mesa turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
