Softball Recap: Hondo Takes a Loss

Hondo dropped their record down to 12-11 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Pearsall Mavericks, falling 16-2. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Owls couldn't push the score so high this time.

Hondo saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kristyn Ybarra, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Ybarra has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played.

As for Pearsall, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-10-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games.

On Pearsall's side, Kristen Morales made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Morales was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Jeralynn Gutierrez was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Alayna Zapata was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hondo will welcome Poteet at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Pearsall, they will face off against Cuero at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Mavericks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Gobblers have averaged an impressive 10.5 runs per game this season.
