Volleyball Recap: Hillsborough Baptist Comes Up Short

Hillsborough Baptist was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat dating back to last season. They fell 3-1 to the Excel Christian Academy Spartans. If the Lions were looking for revenge after losing 3-0 to the Spartans when the teams met back in September of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Hillsborough Baptist started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 20-25, 25-14, 25-11, 25-15.

Excel Christian Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Karlene Fernandez, who had six kills and two aces. Those six kills gave Fernandez a new career-high. Helen Pena was another key player, getting four aces.

Hillsborough Baptist's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Excel Christian Academy, their win ended a four-match drought on the road and puts them at 4-5.

Coincidentally, Hillsborough Baptist and Excel Christian Academy will both be playing Faith Christian Academy the next time they take the court. The Lions will host the Falcons at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Spartans will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
