Mar Vista is 8-2 against Castle Park since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Mariners will head out to challenge the Trojans at 3:30 p.m. Mar Vista will be strutting in after a victory while Castle Park will be coming in after a defeat.
Mar Vista will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Chula Vista on Thursday. The Mariners put the hurt on the Spartans with a sharp 18-4 win. The Mariners not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 22nd (when they won 18-1).

Jayden Tillman made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Mar Vista is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 9-12 otherwise. Tillman was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other pitching news, Jake Leslie looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Elijah Quinones was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Aden Duran, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Mar Vista always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chula Vista only posted an OBP of .400.
Meanwhile, Castle Park was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They lost 17-2 to Southwest SD.
Mar Vista's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-13. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games. As for Castle Park, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-17.
Mar Vista came out on top in a nail-biter against Castle Park in their previous matchup two weeks ago, sneaking past 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mariners since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
