Softball Recap: Westminster Triumphs

With a playoff win on the line, Westminster rose to the challenge on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Moreno Valley Vikings, sneaking past 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Lions have posted since April 12th.

Chelsea Brown spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on 11 hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Naomi Miranda, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Jocelyn Aguilar, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Westminster kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in five consecutive contests.

Westminster is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Moreno Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-10.

Westminster wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 14-8 win against Fillmore on the 17th. Moreno Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
