Preview: Rich Rebels vs. Water Canyon Wildcats
The Rich Rebels will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Water Canyon Wildcats at 10:00 a.m. on November 3rd. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Two weeks ago, Rich was able to grind out a solid victory over Pinedale, taking the game 20-7. The win was just what Rich needed coming off of a 36-13 loss in their prior contest.
The critical scores for Rich came from Jaden Desch, Noah Parry, and Daniel Smith.
One reason for the win was Rich's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for six sacks. Leading the way was Carter Hoffman and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, Water Canyon faced Whitehorse in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Water Canyon didn't even let Whitehorse onto the board and left with a 26-0 win on Friday. The result was nothing new for Water Canyon, who have now won five games by 20 points or more so far this season.
Johnny Johnson was his usual excellent self, throwing for 140 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for 90 yards on only nine carries.
Rich's victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Water Canyon, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Rich has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 162.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Water Canyon struggles in that department as they've been even better at 303.6 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Everything came up roses for Rich against Water Canyon in their previous meeting back in August as the squad secured a 48-6 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Rich since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
