Volleyball Game Preview: Alcorn Central Bears vs. Our Lady Academy Crescents

The Alcorn Central Bears will face off against the Our Lady Academy Crescents at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Alcorn Central comes in on four and Our Lady Academy on five.

Alcorn Central is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They had just enough and edged out Kossuth 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bears have posted against the Aggies since September 7, 2023.

It was an exciting match in which no team won back-to-back sets, but at the end of the day Alcorn Central got the one that really mattered. The final score came out to 25-20, 12-25, 25-15, 21-25, 15-13.

Meanwhile, Our Lady Academy faced Union in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Crescents were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Yellowjackets.

Our Lady Academy never let Union on the board, but things got pretty close in the second set. The match finished with set scores of 25-14, 25-22, 25-21.

Our Lady Academy's win came from a few key players Alcorn Central will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Mackenzie Knoblock, who had seven digs and two aces. She is on a roll when it comes to aces, as she's now served two or more in each of the last four games she's played. Myah Favre was another key player, hitting 69.2% for 28 kills and 22 assists and three blocks.

Alcorn Central's win bumped their record up to 24-14-1. As for Our Lady Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 40-4.

Alcorn Central came up short against Our Lady Academy in their previous matchup back in October of 2023, falling 3-1. Can the Bears avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
