Baseball Recap: Greeley Central Comes Up Short

Greeley Central came into their game on Saturday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against the Alameda Pirates, falling 18-5. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Pirates apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2016.

Angel Lopez-Meza was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. That stolen base marked the first that he snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Jaycob Padilla, who scored a run while going 1-for-1.

Greeley Central's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Alameda, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season.

Greeley Central will head out on the road to square off against Roosevelt at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Alameda, they will be taking part in a tournament against Denver West at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Denver West has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 19.6 runs per game on average), something Alameda will no doubt try to take advantage of.
