Dunellen is a perfect 4-0 against Metuchen since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. Dunellen came into this matchup off a tough 15-run loss on Saturday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Carteret by a score of 13-11 on Monday. The Destroyers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Kasey Manna stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Alexa DeVesa was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Meanwhile, Metuchen narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Middlesex 11-9.
The team relied heavily on Sarah Lindemann, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Leah Dagan, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI and one run.
Metuchen was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .452. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Dunellen's defeat dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Metuchen, their victory ended an eight-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-15.
Metuchen's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Dunellen has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .626. It's a different story for Metuchen, though, as they've only averaged .335. Will they be able to contain Dunellen's hitters?
Dunellen took their win against Metuchen when the teams last played back in May of 2019 by a conclusive 18-8 score. Do the Destroyers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
