The Bishop Kelly Knights will face off against the Meridian Warriors at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Bishop Kelly has six straight victories, Meridian has nine straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Thursday, Bishop Kelly got the win against Columbia by a conclusive 12-2. The Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by six runs or more this season.
Zach Wright made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). Those 14 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-5.

In other batting news, Colin Brazil was a standout: he scored four runs and stole four bases while going 3-for-4. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Lucas Blaine was another key player, going 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Bishop Kelly was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .424. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .303 or higher in six consecutive contests.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Meridian and Rocky Mountain, and Rocky Mountain kept the tradition alive. The Warriors came up short against the Grizzlies on Friday, falling 11-3.
Caleb Boydston was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
The win got Bishop Kelly back to even at 7-7. As for Meridian, their loss dropped their record down to 2-11.
Bishop Kelly's speedy runners might be the difference in Saturday's match. The Knights have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Meridian, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Bishop Kelly continue to outrun the ball?
Everything went Bishop Kelly's way against Meridian when the teams last played back in March of 2022, as Bishop Kelly made off with a 14-8 victory. Will the Knights repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
