Baseball Recap: Milpitas Takes a Loss

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Milpitas and Branham meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Thursday. The Milpitas Trojans fell just short of the Branham Bruins by a score of 4-2. The Trojans haven't had much luck with the Bruins recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Hugo Garay was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. That double was his first of the season.

Garay wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Adrian Chavez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Ian Ostrander also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Milpitas' defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Branham, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-2.

Looking ahead, Milpitas will face off against Monte Vista Christian at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Monte Vista Christian will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Milpitas surely won't give up without a fight. As for Branham, they will host Live Oak at 4:00 p.m. on March 21st.
