Basketball Recap: Logan Laverty's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Monarch over Legacy

Monarch was the 63-46 winner over Legacy when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Monarch Coyotes took a 58-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Legacy Lightning on Friday. The Coyotes have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Monarch lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Logan Laverty, who posted 14 points and eight steals. The dominant performance gave Laverty a new career-high in steals. Justin Myers was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds.

Legacy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaedon Ward led the charge by going 7 for 11 to rack up 19 points. Ward has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Ari Harpring, who went 5 of 11 en route to 11 points and five boards.

Monarch's defeat dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Legacy, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season.

Monarch and Legacy should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings. Monarch (ranked 56th) will meet Niwot (ranked 234th) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Monarch is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.9 points per game this season. Similarly, Legacy will challenge Silver Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday up 113 places (38 vs. 151).
