West hadn't done well against South recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Vikings skirted past the Spartans 10-9. This was a revenge game for the Vikings: when they faced off against the Spartans back in March, they had to take a 9-4 defeat.
West's win was truly a team effort as eight different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Cris Melendez, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Melendez is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Adrian Camacho was another, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
West was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
The victory made it two in a row for West and bumps their season record up to 4-8. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for South, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-4.
South wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 4-2 loss against Arvin on the 2nd. Hopefully West payed attention to the Spartans' game: the next time they hit the field, they'll take on the Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
