Recap: Gunnison Cowboys vs. The Vanguard School Coursers
The Gunnison Cowboys's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They were dealt a 88-38 loss at the hands of The Vanguard School. While losing is never fun, Gunnison can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 282nd, while The Vanguard School is ranked 31st).
The Vanguard School's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nathan Morris led the charge by scoring 19 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Those 19 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Alade , who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 14 rebounds.
Gunnison's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for The Vanguard School, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. After both having extra time off, Gunnison and Olathe will shake off the cobwebs and square off against one another at 7:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Olathe has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. The Vanguard School will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Florence at 7:00 p.m. on January 9, 2024.
