Baseball Recap: Wendell Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Wendell waltzed into their matchup on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the West Jefferson Panthers a 17-0 shutout. That's more bragging rights for the Trojans, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Teagan Vanderham was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one triple and one stolen base.

In other pitching news, Garrett Youngblood looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Back at the plate, Wendell got a massive performance out of Zayden Rogers, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Rogers is becoming a predictor of the Trojans' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-5 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Deegan Prince, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.

Wendell always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .719. They are 9-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Wendell's record now sits at 10-5. As for West Jefferson, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.

Looking ahead, Wendell will challenge Notus at 8:30 a.m. on Friday. As for West Jefferson, they will square off against Idaho City at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday.
