Volleyball Recap: Kalida's Winning Streak Snapped at Nine Games

After a string of nine wins, Kalida's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell just short of the Russia Raiders by a score of 2-1. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Raiders apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

Kalida started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last two. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 23-25, 25-11, 25-19.

Malia Romes paced Kalida's offense, picking up 11 kills. Romes got some help from Isabel Recker and her 13 assists. Romes also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Addilyn Huber, each putting up three.

Leading Russia to victory were Kourtney Phlipot and Violet Armstrong. Phlipot had ten digs and three aces, while Armstrong had six digs and two aces. That's the most aces Phlipot has posted over her last eight matches.

Kalida's defeat dropped their record down to 13-3. As for Russia, they pushed their record up to 13-4 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home.

Kalida has already played their next matchup, a 2-0 victory against Elida on the 27th. As for Russia, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-0 loss against Coldwater on the 29th.
