Basketball Recap: Fairbury Jeffs vs. Heartland Huskies
The Fairbury Jeffs had to endure a nine-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They secured a 29-25 W over Heartland on Monday. The victory was just what Fairbury needed coming off of a 59-12 loss in their prior game.
Leading Fairbury to victory were Korey Nippert and James Martin. Nippert scored seven points along with five rebounds, while Martin scored 11 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Martin has scored all season.
Heartland's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Thane Wetjen, who scored six points along with four steals and four blocks. Sam Quiring was another key contributor, scoring five points along with seven rebounds.
Fairbury's victory bumped their record up to 6-13. As for Heartland, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fairbury won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Cougars at 5:00 p.m. on January 30th. Hopefully Sandy Creek focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 last Friday. As for Heartland, they will head out on the road to take on the Broncos at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
