Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Mattoon walked away with it. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Charleston Trojans on Saturday, sneaking past 43-40. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 32-26 win last Thursday.

Charleston lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Sadie Phillips, who posted 16 points. That was a full 40% of Charleston's points, marking the third time in a row Phillips has earned more than a third of the team's points. Mekenzie Wanek-Clementi was another key player, putting up 11 points.

The victory made it two in a row for Mattoon and bumps their season record up to 8-24. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 5-24 Charleston and 5-23 Charleston. As for Charleston, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-24.
