Football Game Preview: Hull Pirates vs. Cohasset Skippers

Hull hasn't had much luck against Cohasset recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Pirates will be playing in front of their home fans against the Skippers at 10:00 a.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Hull headed into their last matchup having not scored more than 13 points for four straight, but Cardinal Spellman let them put that streak behind them. The Pirates blew past the Cardinals, posting a 33-6 victory. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Pirates as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, Cohasset had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They blew past Northbridge 35-15 on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the Skippers, who have now won seven contests by 20 points or more so far this season.

Cohasset had a senior duo take command as Gus Greene rushed for 224 yards and two TDs while picking up 8.3 yards per carry and Michael Wildfire rushed for 94 yards and one score on only 13 carries. Those 224 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Greene.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Cohasset proved: they limited Northbridge to a paltry 2.3 yards per carry. While one picked up at least three total tackles, Wildfire stood above the rest. He rushed for 94 yards and one touchdown on only 13 carries, and also threw for 139 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 75% of his passes. Cohasset didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged eight.

Cohasset's defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Daniel Baker, Michael Owens, and Ronan Kearney, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Cohasset's victory bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Hull, their win bumped their record up to 3-6.
