Football Recap: Dawson Skates Past South Houston with Ease + How To Watch

Dawson won the last time they faced South Houston and things went their way on Friday too. The Eagles breezed past the Trojans to the tune of 47-6. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Eagles' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 137th, while the Trojans are ranked 950th).

Special teams was a major factor in the game for Dawson, racking up 21 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Calvin Wesley, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.

Dawson's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Kaleb Burks, Sean Bradshaw, and Wealth Modique, who each picked up one sack apiece. Dawson got some further help from Clydell Edmondson: he made 14 total tackles (1.0 for loss).

Dawson pushed their record up to 5-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 11.0 points on average over those games. As for South Houston, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Coming up, Dawson will host Sam Rayburn at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for South Houston, they will head out to square off against Dobie at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Trojans will be up against the Longhorns' rather soft defense (which has allowed 34 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
