Baseball Recap: Savannah Savages vs. Benton Cardinals

After flying high against Maryville last Wednesday, Savannah came back down to earth. The Savannah Savages lost 19-8 to the Benton Cardinals on Monday. Savannah was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Benton apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played on April 10th.

For Benton's part, Chris Coy was a standout: he scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Coy continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Diego Barron, who scored two runs while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.

Savannah's defeat dropped their record down to 19-10. As for Benton, the win (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 22-3.

Savannah will be playing at home against St. Pius X at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Pius X is coming into the matchup with five straight victories on the road, so Savannah will have to stop a team with plenty of momentum. As for Benton, they will take on Lafayette at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Benton knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy run totals in its past four contests -- so hopefully Lafayette likes a good challenge.
