Basketball Recap: Mexico Takes a Loss

While it was all tied up 22-22 at halftime, Mexico was not quite Cortland's equal in the second half on Saturday. They lost to the Cortland Purple Tigers on the road by a 60-46 margin. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Purple Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Jaxson Gambitta was nothing short of spectacular for Cortland: he dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance gave Gambitta a new career-high in points. Owen Johnson was another key player, putting up 12 points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Mexico's defeat dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Cortland, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-3.

Mexico will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Homer at 6:40 p.m. As for Cortland, they will take on Solvay at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cortland is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.8 points per game this season.
