II Section VII recap September 24, 2013
Chaparral was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from fourth to second in II Section VII. The Firebirds vanquished Desert Mountain 35-28 earlier in the week.
Paradise Valley lost to Horizon 73-28 last week, the largest margin of any game. Jordan Brown was a bright spot for the Trojans, as he ran for 63 yards and caught 7 passes for 63 yards in the loss.
Chaparral's dynamic duo of Sean Paul Brophy and Trevor Wood proved tough for the Wolves to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Brophy threw for 304 yards and 2 touchdowns and Wood had 108 yards receiving. Elijah Castro helped Chaparral's passing attack out by catching 7 balls for 98 yards.
David Huffine's team's dynamic duo of Brophy and Wood proved to be unstoppable against Desert Mountain, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Max Vankempen was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 18 carries, he ran for 113 yards as Paradise Valley topped Tony Tabor's team.
Brophy put up the best numbers in passing as Chaparral bested the Wolves.
Wood was the best receiver in the league this week as the Firebirds beat Desert Mountain.
Corey Harper made the biggest impact on defense this week as Cactus Shadows lost to Higley. The 5-foot-10 defensive back.
He was 24-36 with 0 interception.
Donnie Yantis' team's Daniel Bridge-Gadd and Brown have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading II Section VII in both passing and receiving yards. Bridge-Gadd has thrown for 1,116 yards this season, while Brown, a 6-foot-2 receiver, has 25 catches for 326 yards. Joe Kuhlmann from the Falcons leads the league in rushing with 563 yards.
Notre Dame Prep and Poston Butte played the most contested game in the league this week, with Notre Dame Prep eventually emerging with a 20-19 victory.
