Basketball Recap: Iyahna Staton's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Southeast Guilford over Grimsley

Southeast Guilford lost against Grimsley back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Southeast Guilford Falcons received a blow as they fell 53-39 to the Grimsley Whirlies.

Southeast Guilford's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Iyahna Staton, who posted seven points. Alexandria Shealy was another key player, putting up two points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Southeast Guilford smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in 18 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Grimsley was led to victory by Shyla Simms and Sanaya Blount. Simms went 5 of 11 on her way to 16 points in addition to eight assists and five boards, while Blount dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds. The contest was Simms' sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Keaton Olson Fine, who had nine points.

Southeast Guilford's defeat dropped their record down to 11-6. As for Grimsley, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-4.

It'll be Northside v. Southside when Southeast Guilford and Northern Guilford meet at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Southeast Guilford is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.3 points per game this season. As for Grimsley, they will welcome Northwest Guilford at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
