Baseball Game Preview: Windermere Prep Lakers vs. Montverde Academy Eagles

The Windermere Prep Lakers will head out to face off against the Montverde Academy Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Windermere Prep had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Crooms Academy on Thursday. Windermere Prep was the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over Crooms Academy. The Lakers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Windermere Prep got a great performance from Luke Slattery as he struck out eight batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk).

On the hitting side, Peyton Hollern and Joshua Goldberg did most of the damage at the plate: Hollern scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4, while Goldberg scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave Hollern a new career-high in hits (two). Andrew Ligonis also deserves some recognition as he stole his first stolen base of the season.

Windermere Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Crooms Academy only posted an OBP of .300.

Meanwhile, Montverde Academy was able to grind out a solid victory over Mount Dora Christian Academy on Friday, taking the game 17-13.

The win got Montverde Academy back to even at 3-3. As for Windermere Prep, their record now sits at 2-5.

Windermere Prep came up short against Montverde Academy in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, falling 10-6. Can Windermere Prep avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
