Softball Recap: Long Snags 21st Win in Last 23 Games

Long had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Eufaula on Friday. The Rebels were the clear victors by a 14-6 margin over the Tigers. The Rebels might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 18 contests by six runs or more this season.

Anna Claire Free was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two triples, two stolen bases, and three runs. Those two triples gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Kaylie Foster and Ansley Watson did most of the damage at the plate: Foster went 2-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI, while Watson went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Watson has posted over her last 11 matches. Another player making a difference was Carlie Davis, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Long kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive games.

Long has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 21 of their last 23 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 28-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Eufaula, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 13-17.

Long wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, an 8-7 win against Pike Road on the 11th. As for Eufaula, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 10-7 victory against Charles Henderson on the 14th.
