Basketball Recap: Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine Comes Up Short

Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were dealt a 66-26 loss at the hands of the Cumberland Pirates. While losing is never fun, Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 522nd, while Cumberland is ranked 258th).

Alyssa Tipton and Genna Kidwell certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Tipton posted eight points, while Kidwell put up eight points. Kidwell has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 29 times she's played. Emily Rachoy was another key player, putting up two points and eight rebounds.

Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine's defeat dropped their record down to 5-10. As for Cumberland, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.

Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 53-34 win against Farina South Central on the 28th. As for Cumberland, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 54-34 victory against Casey-Westfield on the 28th.
