Baseball Game Preview: St. Albans Red Dragons vs. Buffalo Bison

The St. Albans Red Dragons are taking a road trip to face off against the Buffalo Bison at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. St. Albans' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Buffalo's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Last Tuesday, St. Albans made easy work of Greenbrier East and carried off a 13-7 victory. The Red Dragons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by six runs or more this season.

Meanwhile, Buffalo had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They never let the Wildcats get on the board and left with a 5-0 win.

The result came thanks to Anthony Pitchford's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up 13 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Luca Signorini was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Panaro, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Signorini wasn't the only one making solid contact: Buffalo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

St. Albans has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Buffalo, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-7.

Everything went St. Albans' way against Buffalo in their previous meeting back in March of 2023, as St. Albans made off with a 10-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Dragons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
