Softball Game Preview: Shelton Gaels vs. Hand Tigers

The Shelton Gaels will take on the Hand Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Wednesday just wasn't the day for Shelton's offense. They came up short against Cheshire on Wednesday, falling 6-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Gaels in their meetings with the Rams: they've now lost five in a row.

Sammi Denihan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Tigers on Wednesday. Hand fell 9-5 to Mercy.

Lena Aguzzi was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That stolen base was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Eden Anderson, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

Hand's loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Shelton, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-8-1.
