Basketball Recap: Southside Takes a Loss

Southside lost against Martin County back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Seahawks took a blow against the Gators, falling 64-13. The Seahawks were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-6.

Leading Martin County to victory were Jy'Mir Hollis and Jordan Matthewson. Hollis shot 73% from the field on his way to 17 points and four steals, while Matthewson went 8-for-11 to rack up 16 points and four steals. The dominant performance also gave Matthewson a new career-high in shooting accuracy (73%). Another player making a difference was Zymere Ruffin, who posted ten points.

Southside's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Looking ahead, Southside will welcome North East Carolina Prep at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Martin County will be paying especially close attention to the Seahawks' contest: after the Seahawks face off against Ayden - Grifton, they'll take on Martin County again at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
