Softball Recap: Palmyra-Macedon Makes It Five in a Row at Home

On Thursday Palmyra-Macedon's undefeated season almost came to an end. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 13-12 W against the Waterloo Tigers. While the Red Raiders didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Briana VanHaneghan made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. VanHaneghan was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and two runs.

In other batting news, Elianna Rouland was a standout: she fired off four runs, four doubles, and two stolen bases while going 4-for-4. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2.3 doubles per game. Another player making a difference was Emma Bedette, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Palmyra-Macedon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 14 hits in three consecutive games.

Palmyra-Macedon pushed their record up to 4-0 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.4 runs over those games. As for Waterloo, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-2.

Coming up, Palmyra-Macedon will venture away from home to challenge Aquinas Institute at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Waterloo, they will welcome Naples at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
