Baseball Game Preview: Pagosa Springs Pirates vs. North Fork Miners

The Pagosa Springs Pirates will head out on the road to challenge the North Fork Miners at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Saturday, Pagosa Springs made easy work of Dolores and carried off a 24-9 win. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Bears recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Taylor Wells was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run but no hits. Wells was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances.

In other batting news, Cooper Ralston was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Noah Bellina was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Pagosa Springs was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dolores only posted a batting average of .267.

Meanwhile, North Fork took care of business in their home opener (barely) on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Basalt 6-5.

The team relied heavily on J Hollembeak, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Pagosa Springs came out on top in a nail-biter against North Fork in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, sneaking past 3-1. Will Pagosa Springs repeat their success, or does North Fork have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
