The Virginia Episcopal School Bishops will venture away from home to take on the Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Saints at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Virginia Episcopal School is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.
Things were looking good for Virginia Episcopal School after they put the first run on the board on Tuesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of North Cross by a score of 4-3. Bishops fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Raiders since on Tuesday.
Nash Watson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on three hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Virginia Episcopal School saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaxon Godsie, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Granby hit Nansemond-Suffolk Academy with a five-run fourth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Saints fell just short of the Comets by a score of 11-10. The Saints' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Parker Duke and Gavin Angelillo stepped up to the plate in a big way. Duke went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run, while Angelillo went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Angelillo has become a key player for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 7-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Brooks, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Virginia Episcopal School's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-6. As for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 12-10.
Nansemond-Suffolk Academy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Virginia Episcopal School hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .363. It's a different story for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, though, as they've only averaged .244. Will they be able to contain Virginia Episcopal School's hitters?
Virginia Episcopal School might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Nansemond-Suffolk Academy in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Bishops avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
