Recap: Bishop Gorman Gaels vs. Faith Lutheran Crusaders
On Wednesday, the Bishop Gorman Gaels faced the Faith Lutheran Crusaders in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Couldn't have asked for a better start to 2024 than the 67-31 blowout they got on the road against Faith Lutheran. Considering Bishop Gorman has won four matches by more than 29 points this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Leading Bishop Gorman to victory were Aaliah Spaight and Kenzee Holton. Spaight scored 18 points along with nine rebounds and seven assists, while Holton scored 14 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Holton is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Neeyah Webster, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Despite the loss, Faith Lutheran still got an impressive performance from Emma Herpin, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds. The contest was Herpin's fifth in a row with at least ten points.
Faith Lutheran struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Bishop Gorman's victory bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Faith Lutheran, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-6 record this season.
Bishop Gorman won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Coronado at 7:00 p.m. on January 4th. Coronado will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak. As for Faith Lutheran, they will head out on the road to face off against Desert Pines at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Desert Pines will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive.
